CANTICLE 7
3:1-5: "A Song of an Amazing Marriage"
The Setting of the Song
Place: Lebanon
Time: Just Before the Marriage
Occasion: Solomon fulfills his promise, and sends a gorgeous chariot to
bring her to Jerusalem to marry him..
HISTORICAL SETTING | SPIRITUAL APPLICATION |
The amazed Shulamite's question (3:6) She voices amazement at the unusual and unexpected presence of the royal palanquin in their region. |
"Glad day, glad day, is it the Crowing Day?" 3:6 He who has promised to take us unto Himself will likewise fulfill His promise. No matter how much we have thought of Him and His coming, we will be awed by the glory and splendor of the moment when He calls us to Himself. |
An Officer replies (3:7-10) This is the explajnatory answer or announcement of Solomon's represenetative who has been sent to inform the shepherdess of her good fortune and to bring her safely to Jerusalem. (Note: Solomon has sent his own personal bodyguard, probably including some of David's mighty men!) |
3:7-10 So surrounded by the graces and
aroma of His Holy Spirit's provision, and taken in the splendor
of His own salvation's provision, we shall be ushered into His
presence. 3:7-8 The ministering spirits (angels) who have protected us ("the heirs of salvation") through all our lives are to be vitally associated with Him in His return as a guard of honor (e.g., Lk. 16:22; Mt. 25:31). 3:9-10 "We are His workmanship." Eph. 2:10. Christ provides and prepares everything for us His Bride; all that is necessary to make it possible for us to be carried to His presence. (In this scene the Bride is not mentioned. She is eclipsed in the grandeur and the state of her Royal Bridegroom; nevertheless she is both enjoying and sharing it.) |
