THREE AREAS OF IMPUTATION
Imputation of Adam's sin to the race (Rom. 5:12)
Imputation of the sin of man to Christ (2 Cor. 5:21)
Imputation of the righteousness of God to those who
believe (Phil. 3:9; Rom. 3:22; 2 Cor. 5:21)
When we say that man is absolutely destitute of original righteousness, that
man is corrupt, that his human nature is defiled, that he cannot do anything
good in the sight of God, we do not mean that man cannot be morally good,
humanly speaking. We do not mean that he is therefore a drunkard or a
sinner of the lowest type, as the world calls it. But we mean that he cannot
and does not love God. Romans 8:6-8 is true of him. Death can never be life;
enmity cannot be friendship. His status can be changed only be believing the
saving gospel.
