| 2 John has as its key: "Attitude toward false teachers." | 3 John has as its key: "Attitude toward teachers of the truth." |
| 2 John emphasizes -no fellowship with error | 3 John emphasizes hospitality to truth. |
| 2 John shows limits of scriptural fellowship. | 3 John shows breadth of Christian fellowship. |
| 2 John talks of "walking in truth. " | 3 John talks of "walking in love. " |
| Both are personal letters to individuals. | |
| Both are letters which were short only because the writer expected to see the addressees soon: 2 John 12; 3 John 14. | |
