M I C A H ("Who is like Jehovah" - 7:18)

Micah prophesied during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah of Judah. He prophesied from about 735-700 BC (Whitcomb). See 2 Kings 15:27-20:21 and 2 Chronicles 27-32.

To both kingdoms (Main heads - Lee)

1. DENUNCIATORY: JEHOVAH WITNESSING AGAINST THE SINFUL NATION 1-3
   1. The title 1:1
   2. The theme 1:2-5
   3. Judgment announced and described 1:6-16
      1. Samaria to be destroyed 6-7
      2. The prophet's lamentation over coming Assyrian invasion extending to the very gate of Jerusalem 8-16
   4. Reasons for the judgment 2:1-3:11
      1. Injustice to man and apostasy from God 2:1-11
         PARENTHESIS: A foregleam of blessing after judgment 2:12-13
      2. The faithless princes, priests, and prophets are arraigned by God's true prophet (8) 3:1-11
   5. The destruction of Jerusalem graphically foretold 3:12 (Cp. Jer. 26:18-19)
       
2. CONSOLATORY: JEHOVAH WITNESSING TO HIS FAITHFULNESS AND MERCY 4-7
   1. Jehovah consoling 4-5
      1. The glory of the Millennial Kingdom 4:1-5
      2. Israel to be regathered and supreme 4:6-13
         Despite intervening chastisement of Babylonian captivity and the Church Age dispersion.
      3. All this will be brought about through Jesus, the Eternal One 5
         At His first coming, rejected;
         at His second coming, triumphant.
   2. Jehovah pleading 6:1-7:6
      1. Jehovah's touching plea 6:1-5
      2. The inquiry of a convicted people 6:6-7
      3. The moral prerequisite to sacrifice 6:8
      4. Jehovah's indictment of Israel's sin 6:9-16
      5. The prophet's sorrowful confession of the truth of Jehovah's indictment 7:1-6
   3. Jehovah pardoning 7:7-20
      1. The prayer of the prophet 7:7-10
         1. His trustful confidence 7-8
         2. His submission to judgment 9a
         3. His joyful expectation 9b-10
      2. The gracious answer of Jehovah 7:11-17
      3. Exultant praise for Jehovah's pardon and restoration 7:18-20

      NOTE: The usual date given for the captivity of the Northern Kingdom is 722/721, i.e., the 6th year of Hezekiah of Judah. After this event the prophets (except Nahum) speak almost exclusively to JUDAH. Of course, the ten tribes are included in future glory.
