M I C A H ("Who is like Jehovah" - 7:18)

Micah prophesied during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah of Judah. He prophesied from about 735-700 BC (Whitcomb). See 2 Kings 15:27-20:21 and 2 Chronicles 27-32.

To both kingdoms (Main heads - Lee)

  1. DENUNCIATORY: JEHOVAH WITNESSING AGAINST THE SINFUL NATION 1-3

    3. Judgment announced and described 1:6-16
      1. Samaria to be destroyed 6-7
      2. The prophet's lamentation over coming Assyrian invasion extending to the very gate of Jerusalem 8-16

      1. Injustice to man and apostasy from God 2:1-11
        PARENTHESIS: A foregleam of blessing after judgment 2:12-13
      2. The faithless princes, priests, and prophets are arraigned by God's true prophet (8) 3:1-11

  2. CONSOLATORY: JEHOVAH WITNESSING TO HIS FAITHFULNESS AND MERCY 4-7

        Despite intervening chastisement of Babylonian captivity and the Church Age dispersion.

      1. Jehovah's touching plea 6:1-5
      2. The inquiry of a convicted people 6:6-7

      NOTE: The usual date given for the captivity of the Northern Kingdom is 722/721, i.e., the 6th year of Hezekiah of Judah. After this event the prophets (except Nahum) speak almost exclusively to JUDAH. Of course, the ten tribes are included in future glory.
