Who is Jesus?
Part-4
by Joan A Deering
I am
offering another very important section on “Why Jesus became a human being”.
“Since
then the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of
the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of
death, that is, the devil; and might deliver those who through fear of death
were subject to slavery all their lives. For assuredly He does not give help to
angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham.
Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, that He
might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God to
make propitiation for the sins of the people.
For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is
able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.”
[Hebrews 2:14-18
Christ
Jesus came as a human… because He had to conquer death for us.
Way back in Genesis the devil brought sin into the world, and he tempted
Eve and Adam listened to her and they both entered into sin, that was the
beginning of death for us as humans.
This account is in Genesis 3:1-24.
“And
the woman said to the serpent (the devil), “From the fruit of
the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in
the middle of the garden, God said, “You shall not eat from it or touch it, let
you die.” And the serpent said to the woman, “You surely shall not die! For God
knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened and you will be
like God, knowing good from evil.” When the woman saw that the tree was good for
food, and that was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to
make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband
with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew
that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves
loin coverings.”
[Genesis 3:1-7
As a
result of this sin, we are all doomed to die. Jesus lived 33 years on earth
subject to temptation just as we are--yet without sin. He died to break the
power of sin and death. Jesus lived,
was crucified on the cross, was buried and after three days He rose again. He
then ascended to heaven where He sits at the right hand of God to intercede for
us. He can do this because of what
He did on earth for us.
We who
believe this will live forever in the presence of Jesus!
Those who don’t will die without accepting His gift of salvation and will
forever be separated from Him for eternity.
No second chance. Wanting to die and never being able to die--for
eternity.
