Who is Jesus
Part - 9
By Joan A Deering
Jesus’ Ministry began when
He was around 30 years old. He called 12 men to be his personal disciples [and
another collection of 70 disciples during His ministry] and they went with Him
for around 3 years during His ministry.
Here are some of the events of Jesus gathering the disciples:
Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon, who was called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of people.” Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets; and He called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him
Matthew 4:18-22.
Again, the next day John
was standing with two of his disciples, and
he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” And
the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to
them, “What are you seeking?” They
said to Him, “Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?” He
said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So,
they came and saw where He was staying, and they stayed with Him that day; it
was about the tenth hour. One
of the two who heard John speak,
and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
He first found his own brother
Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means
Christ). He brought him to Jesus. Jesus
looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John;
you shall be called Cephas” (which is
translated Peter).
The next day He decided to go
to Galilee, and He found Philip. And
Jesus said to him, “Follow
Me.” Now Philip
was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew
and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and
said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses wrote in the Law, and the
prophets also wrote: Jesus the
son of Joseph, from Nazareth!” Nathanael
said to him, “Can anything good be from Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and
see.” Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and
said of him, “Here is truly an Israelite, in whom there
is no deceit!” Nathanael said to Him, “How do
You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip
called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” Nathanael
answered Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel!”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Because
I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see
greater things than these.” And He said to
him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven
opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
John 1:35-51
And having summoned His
(Jesus’) twelve disciples He gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast
them out, and to heal every disease and every sickness.
Now the names of the twelve
apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called
Peter, and his brother Andrew;
and James the son of Zebedee, and his
brother John;
Philip
and Bartholomew; Thomas
and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon
the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, the
one who also betrayed Him.
